With a first look into the details, you’ll find that
Spoiler alert: there’s no wrong answer.
One of the biggest decisions when planning your wedding day timeline?
Whether or not to do a first look, first touch with private vows, or leave it all to when you walk down the aisle.
You’ve probably heard all the advice—your planner has thoughts, your mom, sister, aunt has opinions, and TikTok keeps serving you videos of couples sobbing under oak trees at golden hour. So let’s break it down together, casually and honestly.
Let’s start with the first look. This is when you carve out a moment before the ceremony to see each other, away from the eyes of guests and family. It’s quiet. It’s yours. And most importantly—it’s emotional in the best way.
Couples who choose this route often tell me how grounding it felt to see their person before all the buzz of the day. There’s so much build-up to a wedding, and getting to pause, hug, cry, laugh, and say “holy crap, we’re doing this!” makes everything feel real.
From a photographer’s perspective? First looks are a timeline dream. We can take wedding party photos, couple portraits, and even some family shots before the ceremony. That means after you say “I do,” you’re free to actually enjoy your cocktail hour, spend more time with guests, and not feel rushed before sunset hits.
And if you’re a little anxious or introverted? A first look gives you a moment to reset emotionally before the big public part begins. Here is Lindsey and Corey’s first look.
There is nothing quite like the first look happening at the altar. The music swells, your people are watching, and suddenly it all hits at once—you’re getting married.
If you’ve always dreamed of that cinematic moment where one of you turns around and melts at the sight of the other… then holding off might be the way to go.
Just keep in mind that photos will need to be squeezed into cocktail hour. It’s doable, but the schedule gets tighter, especially during fall and winter when the sun sets early.
Not into seeing each other before the ceremony, but still want a quiet connection moment? Enter: the first touch.
You can stand back-to-back or around a doorframe, hold hands, exchange letters, say a prayer, or just breathe together. It’s intimate and grounding—without giving up that big aisle reveal.
Honestly, it’s one of my favorite things to photograph. The emotions are real and raw, and the photos are chef’s kiss.
Truly? Go with your gut. There’s no right or wrong here—just what feels most like you two.
Whether you want to share a first look in the garden before your ceremony or wait for that slow-motion moment in front of everyone you love, I’ll be there to document the magic.
Still not sure what fits best?
Go ahead and submit an inquiry and let’s hop on a call and talk through your timeline. I’ve seen it all, and I’m here to help make the day flow beautifully—no stress required.
And as always…
With light, love, and timeless moments,
